Welcome!

Here at The Unplucked Apple, we’re not your usual philosophical podcast. Yes, we still explore philosophical topics and concepts. But we also want to broaden the horizons of the discipline to include more historically marginalized philosophical voices and theories.

Episodes typically release once a month and come in three rotating varieties – freeform panel discussions with two or more contributors talking about a pre-selected topic or philosopher, interviews with contemporary philosophers from marginalized groups, and deep-dive episodes where we examine the perspectives and writings of underappreciated or largely unknown marginalized philosophers from the past.

The podcast was inspired by the ancient Greek poet Sappho, seen in the sketch, and her little-acknowledged importance to early philosophy. Because of that, the first deep-dive episode is all about Sappho, her life, and her contribution to the canon. The podcast’s name was also inspired by one of Sappho’s poems, and the implications of the phrase are discussed in our first panel episode. Also, if you’re new to the podcast, be sure to check out Episode 0 where the host and regular contributors introduce themselves and talk about a bit of their background.
